THIS IS A MOVEMENT - A SCANDINAVIAN INTERMEDIA ART GROUP

This is a Movement is a performance and audiovisual art group started in 2017, based in Trondheim, Copenhagen and Stockholm. The members of the group are three young scandinavian artists working together within the field of performance, music technology, sound art, lightning design and video design. This is a movement focus their art on the body’s well being in a work society where we don’t take advantage of our body’s abilities, and where we easily forget our body’s needs. Using the body and taking care of the body is essential to all the artistic work.

EXPERIENCE

2019 Workshop at Science Camp | Big Challenge festival, Trondheim, Norway

Teaching school children how to use body sensors to make music. For beginners.

  • Group work for 10 students each day, age 11-12 years old.

  • Giving tasks where the body is used to learn the theory, to improvise and to program

  • Teaching Arduino and our own program in Max/MSP and how to use sensors that get voltage information from our muscles.

  • Make students work with scores, improvisation and playing.

2019 Artistic Research “Movement”| The Danish National School og Performing Arts

“How can you include the mind and body’s preconditions in a work progress?

1) How will it affect the work results? 2) How will it affect the work process and joy of working?”

  • Tracking our physical and psychological state for two months, to see how it affected work motivation, effectivity, creativity and concentration.

  • Making three experiments with experimental groups that got programming tasks with Micro:bit to solve in a group, while getting instructions on how to use their bodies.

  • Testing and developing the method “Movement” in This is a Movement’s own artistic work.

  • Giving an open lecture at The Danish National School of Performing Arts.

2017 Artistic research “Poder Corporal”  | The Danish National School of Performing Arts

“How does it sound if we treat body and mind as one, and use the body to make music with a computer?”

  • Making and following guidelines where the body’s needs are superior to the work results.

  • Programming Arduino, Max/MSP and Ableton Live to make a setup where information from muscles and movement can control music made live.

  • Presenting the results as a performance-concert at “Dokkhuset”, in Trondheim, Norway.
